Where broken boreholes once meant long walks, lost time, and uncertainty, families are now drawing safe water from sources that work, day after day.
In 2025 alone, water service technicians and mechanics trained by our lead partner in the water sector, Whave Solutions, maintained 472 water points under Preventive Maintenance and Continuous Rehabilitation Agreements (PMCRA) with communities. Under these agreements, communities contribute small user fees while Whave provides technical expertise and oversight that keeps the water sources functional each day.
With 662 PMCRAs signed across five districts (Mityana 245, Kassanda 22, Nakaseke 318, Kikuube 43 and Kyegegwa 34), communities and service providers share clear roles and responsibilities that guarantee functionality, accountability and quick response when faults emerge.
For families, reliable water sources mean shorter distances to fetch water, fewer hours spent in queues, and more time for school, farming, and other income-generating activities. It also means fewer cases of waterborne disease and improved hygiene.
At Ssebbobbo in Ssekanyonyi subcounty, Edith Nalumansi, a member of the Water Source Committee, has witnessed this shift firsthand.
“When we contribute as a community, we know help will come quickly. Whave responds promptly whenever there is a breakdown because we are all part of the agreement,” she says.
This sense of shared ownership is reinforced by trained local technicians who ensure systems are always functional. Titus Ssemuddu, a pump mechanic responsible for nearly 30 boreholes, is part of this frontline network.

“I work closely with the Water Source Committees to make sure every borehole is regularly checked and fully serviced. Because of these agreements, we don’t wait for a breakdown but we prevent it. And when repairs are needed, we respond fast so people are never left without water,” Titus explains.
Today, communitiesworking with TeamUp are no longer trapped in the cycle of breakdown and neglect of water sources. Preventive maintenance, timely repairs, and shared responsibility have replaced uncertainty with reliability.
