Increasing access to quality agricultural inputs through mobile markets

In our work towards improved livelihood prospects for youth, TeamUp Uganda organises mobile markets in the districts of Mityana and Kassanda to bring quality farm inputs, reliable market linkages, agribusiness and life-changing knowledge closer to  young people in rural areas.

With limited access to agro-inputs still a major barrier for young farmers, the mobile markets are serving as a practical solution to bridge this gap. Organized in partnership with private agroinput dealers such as Yalamilla, Osho Chemicals, and Bukoola Chemical Industries, these market days bring affordable, quality inputs directly to youth, while also providing training on the safe use and application of agrochemicals.

Hanns R. Neumann Stiftung (HRNS), our lead partner in agriculture, mobilises youth for each market session, ensuring wide community participation. At these events, Action 4 Health Uganda (A4HU), our lead partner in health, holds health outreaches, enhancing awareness and access to sexual and reproductive health including family planning products and services. Whave Solutions, the partner in the water sector, exhibits and promotes handwashing stations to improve healthy practices in families and public spaces.

Service providers not only train participants but also sell their products to community members while youth gain business contacts and follow-up support, paving the way for long-term engagement.

Looking ahead, TeamUp Uganda is working to deepen partnerships with private sector actors, financial institutions, and local governments to:

  • Improve access to capital and business development services for youth
  • Enhance mentorship opportunities
  • Leverage digital platforms to connect young entrepreneurs to broader markets
